Julia Simmons
Julia gained her Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation and has taught Art Explorers at Sunningwell for more than three years. She is an ideas person and works to bring together art materials, techniques and influences from other artists. She seeks to encourage children’s enjoyment and freedom in the process of art making; being absorbed in their work while exploring and learning, developing confidence in creativity; something they can always enjoy. The freedom to explore ideas and images is part of her process which often starts with photographing her everyday environment. Her practice includes drawing, painting and printmaking with a penchant for charcoal drawings.
Julia studied Education and Modern Languages at the University of Exeter. As a qualified teacher, she has taught across the primary age range. She has worked in schools, especially with the younger KS1 age group, for many years, has run art clubs and activities and co-ordinated whole-school (EYFS – Y6) art workshop projects.
