Jane Strother

Jane studied painting at Bath Academy of Art and has worked as a painter, illustrator, printmaker and teacher and trainer of teachers. She works from her studio in Oxford.

“I am a studio painter. I devise and build a final image through many stages and layers of paint. Once the subject is established, the form of the work takes precedent. The physicality of the surface layer paint is important. I am excited by composition, colour proportion and value relationships, the quality of a mark and its location.

Subjects are frequently found at the coast and are generally of some environmental context; the use of the land, its vulnerability, topography, natural habitat and wildlife, particularly botany.”
