This course for painters combines practical mixing techniques with a deeper exploration of how we perceive colour. By investigating the subtle relationships between hue, value and saturation, you will learn to mix with intention and clarity, deepening your understanding of colour mixing as both a technical craft and a personal language.

Materials to bring with you

Surfaces

An A4 pad of oil or acrylic painting paper for exercises (you’ll need around 5 sheets)

2 painting surfaces (primed canvas or canvas board). Any size around 35 x 25cm (14 x 10in)

Paints

Titanium white

Ivory black

Lemon yellow

Cadmium yellow

Cadmium red

Alizarin Crimson

Ultramarine Blue

Phthalo Blue or Cerulean

Yellow Ochre

Raw Umber

Burnt Sienna

Solvents and Mediums if you are working in oil

Low odour solvent (for cleaning brushes and thinning paint)

Linseed oil (optional)

Tools

Hog brushes, flats and filberts (suggested sizes 4, 6, 8)

Flat palette

Palette knife

Rags or paper towels

What else to bring

Refreshments are provided during breaktimes but please bring your lunch with you. Parking is available on site, in the overflow car park, on the road and at the Village Hall.
