CONTEMPORARY PAINTING AND DRAWING Develop your practice with Jane Strother

Mon. 9.30 a.m. – 12.00 noon

The course provides sequential structured sessions aiming to unpick some of the theory behind a good and interesting composition in colour. You will work on studies and activities useful for representative and more abstracted contemporary painting, with the opportunity to apply your learning to personal project work.

Course subject matter will generally be extracted from

still life for use as a vehicle for understanding aspects of painting, rather than the focus. Each session will be planned with a specific objective related to colour and composition. You will be encouraged to take an experimental approach with support from the tutor.

Please provide your own materials. Demonstrations will be in acrylics but oils, acrylics and mixed media are all suitable. During the term you’ll need a range of ‘tonal’ and coloured paper for collage, glue, scissors, as well as drawing paper, paints, pencils etc. This is available from the school shop.
For the first session you will need large drawing paper A2 or larger, masking tape, both willow and compressed charcoal, a rubber, fixative, white chalk or conte.
