During this two-day course students will create a portrait head in clay which will then be fired in our kiln.

Paying special attention to mark-making and the impact of expressive gestures, students will create a portrait of a life model. This course will show how to use an armature to speed up the process of sculpting a portrait. Using the assistance of the armature will encourage students to concentrate on the surface of the clay and discover how texture can inform and influence the work.

Welcoming absolute beginners and those experienced in working with clay, the course invites students to experiment with the clay surface. Using either sculpting tools or their hands, students are encouraged to find texture in the shaping of the clay and find how that texture can assist their expression.

Clay can be bought separately from the school.
Beginners welcome
