How to get the most from your oil pastels with Jane Strother
£75 (10 students maximum)
An introduction to skills and techniques for beginners to the medium and an opportunity for the more experienced to consolidate their practice.
The workshop will cover tools and materials and introduce techniques from sgraffito and scumbling to mark-making and mixing media and even, how to rectify mistakes and rework!
You will experiment and make samples, with a chance to complete a finished piece.
Materials:
Oil pastels. As with most art materials the better quality tends to be pricier. Sennelier and Caran D’Ache are the best in my opinion and can be bought singly. However, other brands can be used successfully. If you can, include one good quality white stick which will make all the difference to a more basic selection.
Vegetable oil
Kitchen roll
Paper. White drawing paper, A3. If you have the odd piece of coloured paper bring it along.
Craft knife. The kind with snappable blades or a scalpel.
Other useful equipment: coloured pencils, acrylics, brushes, water pot, masking tape.
