Ruth Swain

Ruth Swain is an award-winning portrait, figurative and still-life artist living in Oxfordshire. Her previous career in advertising influences her paintings – she likes to use visual ideas and humour to enhance her work. Currently Ruth is exploring the idea of Still-Life as a form of portraiture. She looks at what was seen as traditional women’s work and wants to elevate its status, to find beauty in the minutiae of everyday life. Ruth works in oil, pastel and watercolour.

She has exhibited in exhibitions such as the RBSA open exhibition 2017, OAS open in 2018, 2019,2020 and 2021 and The RIPW exhibition 2019.

Her painting ‘Essentials’ is on show in the Ashmoleum Museum, Oxford.

Ruth is also a winner of the Liberty Arts Prize 2020 and will be part of an exhibition in the Liberty offices from May 2021. She also has a painting selected for the RIWP(Royal Institute of Painters In Watercolours) in May 2021. She is a member of the Oxford Art Society.
