Thomas Gainsborough earned his living largely as a portrait painter but his first love was landscape. He wanted to continue painting landscapes right through the winter when working outside was a problem. So he would bring stones, lumps of turf and other rubbish into his studio, set it up and allow it to remind him of mountains, forests and hillsides which he would then paint.
On 6th December we will see if we can out-Gainsborough Gainsborough!
Please bring your normal painting medium of choice. A bucket and a phone or camera would be useful but not essential
