Classical Oil Painting Masterclass

Marcus Hodge Classical Oil Painting Masterclasses, 3 hour 5 week intensive course at Marcus' studios in Appleton Max 6 students

The course will teach accurate observation of proportion, tone, temperature and colour using still life and cast work. Using very simple arrangements to more complete compositions allows the student to build on their knowledge and technical skills in a well organised manner.
Differing techniques will be studied, but above all I hope to encourage each student to enjoy painting with a loaded brush and plenty of confidence.

These important techniques can then be used at a later stage for other disciplines such as portraiture or landscape painting.

Each student will have their own area with controlled lighting to set up something appropriate to their ability.
Later for those interested there is the opportunity to practise master copies as a path to a better understanding of different techniques. Breaking down the process into its various stages facilitates the appreciation of how other artists arrive at a final painting.
