Over two days we'll loosen up and play, going from drawing into paint. Day one starts with observational drawing from a playful still life/diorama: taking a line for a walk and finding negative space, exercises that help you look at things you don't normally look at while you find what instinctively interests you. In the afternoon we pick out those discoveries and build them into developed mixed media drawings. Day two moves into paint, working back and forth freely between drawing and painting materials, then a freestyle afternoon to follow your own direction. No experience needed. All levels welcome, including beginners.
Materials:
You won’t necessarily need all the below materials, but a small collection would be good.
• Black conté stick.
• Pencils, coloured and lead pencils.
• Neocolor II water-soluble pastels.
• Water-based paint sticks. (The school has some of these for you to borrow.)
• Acrylic/posca pens. (There are some at the school you can borrow.)
• Brushes (The school has a collection you can borrow.)
• Masking tape.
• cartridge paper, plus some heavier paper or card that can take paint. (Thick cartridge can be bought at the school.)
There is parking at the school, on the road in front of the school and the village hall car park. Complimentary refreshments are available throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch and small change if you wish to buy paper at the school. Please note - there is no shop in the village.
