The Korean Moon Jar is one of the most celebrated forms in ceramic history. Originating during the seventeenth century, moon jars are characterised by their large spherical form, subtle asymmetries, and quiet elegance. Traditionally made by joining two separately thrown hemispheres, they embody simplicity, balance, and the beauty of imperfection. During this two-day workshop, learners will investigate the historical and cultural significance of moon jars while developing advanced wheel-throwing techniques. Participants will design, throw, assemble, and refine their own moon jar forms, exploring concepts of proportion, surface quality, and aesthetic restraint. Suitable for those with experience of throwing.
Price includes firing and glazing. Clay sold separately.
There is parking at the school, on the road in front of the school and the village hall car park. Complimentary refreshments are available throughout the day. Please bring a packed lunch and small change if you wish to buy paper at the school. Please note - there is no shop in the village.
